On the LAST SUNDAY of every month we do a harvest of English Ivy for basketry and paper making materials! This supports the ongoing need of the ecosystem for humans to be interacting with the ivy in order to keep its overabundance in check!
Meet up at the park and learn to harvest and process vines for basketry and paper-making, make friends, and directly support the health of the Sausal Creek Watershed!
**BASKET CIRCLES**
Learn to make basket with English Ivy in community!
Coming to at least one harvest day to learn how to harvest, process, and prepare ivy for basketry, and gathering enough material for making a basket is the pre-requisite for coming to a basket circle ❤️
Once you come to a harvest day you can join the Sausal Creek Ivy League (SCIL) group chat where we discuss:
🕸️what’s going on with the ivy along the creek
🕸️discuss observations
🕸️ask each other questions
🕸️schedule Basket Circle meetups!!
Once you’ve got enough ivy harvested for a basket you can come to a Basket Circle where everyone who’s ready to make a basket will come together at the park to make baskets together!
If you’ve never made a basket before, this is a great way to get support and guidance from folks who’ve done it before. We’ve got experience, resources, and tools to share!! We are also building a library on the website where we have free access to PDFs with simple instructions for starter baskets using English Ivy, as well as instructions to reference for harvesting, processing and storing material!
Where and When?
We meet at the Dimond Canyon El Centro trailhead at 10am and stay harvesting along the trail until 2pm. Come at any point during that time and stay as long as you want. Just walk along the trail until you see our banner and people having fun pulling ivy! Or text us and we can give you a more exact location!
What to bring:
